All you need to know to be successful

To keep size accuracy, scaling must no happen to the document's content - it must be cropped instead, e.g. some content cannot be printed and is lost.
In this case, the document's content defines a wider size than the print medium has. In this mode a part of the document's content at the left and right edge is cropped to fit to the print medium's format.
Example is printing a letter sized document on an A4 medium (e.g. 216 mm letter width to 210 mm A4 width). About 6 mm are cropped at both sides of the letter content.
The default is to center the documents content vertically on the print medium. The alignment defaults can be changed by the options from the 'fit-align-*' type list.
In this case, the document's content defines a longer size than the print medium has. In this mode a part of the document's content at the top and bottom edge is cropped to fit to the print medium's format.
Example is printing an A4 sized document on a letter medium (e.g. 297 mm A4 length to 279.4 mm letter length). About 8.8 mm are cropped at top/bottom of the A4 content.

Example is printing an A3 sized document on an A4 medium (e.g. 297 mm/420 mm A3 size to 210 mm/297 mm A4 size).
The default is to center the document's content in both axis.
